New Simen Johan

– Simen Johan recently posted this tease from his new series on his website. I can’t wait to see this rest of the series and for the show in September. Of all the photographers digitally manipulating their photos nowadays, Simen’s work is far and away my favorite. He is able to rework his images to the point where you don’t know what is real and what is fake while still making the work look photographic, which I think seperates him from the pack.

Merging traditional photographic techniques with digital methods, Johan creates each of his images from as many as one hundred negatives, having first constructed or discovered each element and photographed it on film. Across his body of work, the viewer is urged to ponder the relationship between the real and the artificial or imagined.

See more work here.

Thanks for this post man, I’ve been waiting for his new stuff for a while and stopped checking his site a couple months ago. I interned with him for a few weeks back in ’07 and he was working on some sick taxidermy sculptures… can’t wait to see if any of those make it in the show.

Hey brother, thats sick that you interned with Simen, I know a few other people that have also. Supposedly there is a secret site that has all the work up on it that he only sent to vip people. You should email him. See you on Friday?
