Eyes of Artists

Timothy Briner

– I’ve been meaning to write about Tim Briner’s Boonville project for quite some time. The beautiful black and white images in the series examine the current state of America through the exploration of six towns with the same name but drastically different environments.

Boonville connects six American small towns of the same name, their diverse landscapes, and unique individuals, into one unifying view of America.

For one full year Briner was photographing and exploring portions of the continental United States, specifically six towns across the country named Boonville. Briner lived with families and individuals in the six towns for 4-7 weeks each.

The six Boonvilles, their evocative name, diverse geographical locations, and wide range in populations, including a once-thriving but now-extinct town in Texas and sprawling city of 8,000-plus in Missouri, informed and inspired his examination of the current state of life in America.
