Wishes: A Black and White Salon
May 26 – June 20, 2010
May 28, 2010 6:00 – 9:00 pm
Lowest East Side Gallery and Corey Presha are pleased to announce Wishes, a group show on view from Wednesday May 26th, 2010, through June 20th, 2010, with an opening reception on Friday May 28th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. This is the inaugural exhibition for the gallery, featuring work from a diverse group of young photographers. Opening reception is open to the public, all other visits are by appointment only.
Wishes provides a look into some of today’s most exciting contemporary photographers using the black and white medium in new and interesting ways as well as those steeped in the history of photography. Erica Allen, Grant Willing and Sam Falls’ work comment on the state of photography itself, using contemporary methods to push the medium into the next generation. Devin Yalkin’s high grain photographs capture the spirit of Japan in the 1970’s as well as contemporary practitioners such as Jacob Aue Sobol and Anders Petersen. Timothy Briner’s wonderful image WWIII from his series Boonville makes a statement on the state of America today while Pedro Arieta’s high contrast fashion photographs take cues from the past.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Erica Allen, Pedro Arieta, Timothy Briner, Asger Carlsen, Sam Falls, Grace Kim, Grant Willing and Devin Yalkin.
